Goals of Social Anxiety Therapy Group
The Social Anxiety Group is a small group experience with 5-6 group members and a group leader. The group sessions are held for 8 consecutive Mondays from January 25 through March 14th, 2016. The Social Anxiety Group will help you:
- Reduce fear of judgment and negative evaluation
- Increase social confidence
- Develop a new sense of self
What You Will Learn in the Social Anxiety Therapy Group
In this 8-week group, you will learn cognitive, behavioral and experiential skills and strategies to increase your confidence and overcome social anxiety. Topics covered will include:
- How social anxiety develops and how social anxiety creates a self-perpetuating cycle
- What your thoughts and safety behaviors are that maintain your social anxiety cycle
- How to rate and prioritize your social fears and break them into less scary baby steps
- How to stop avoiding and start approaching your fears
- How to change your negative self-talk
- New paradoxical strategies to accept and even welcome anxiety, discomfort and uncertainty into your life
- Experiential exercises such as role plays, exposures and behavioral experiments to change your core beliefs and develop a new sense of self
Fees for the Social Anxiety Group
Fee is $560 per 8-week class (pre-paid in full to hold your spot) and $130 for the pre-group interview. PPO insurance that allows you to go out of network may cover part of fees. You will receive a receipt for the sessions at the end of the group, which you will then be able to submit for possible reimbursement. Please check with your insurance company to find out if they cover group therapy led by a registered intern and supervised by two licensed therapists. There are no refunds for missed group sessions or if you drop out because the group is closed and participation is limited to 5-6 group members. If you are undecided about being able to fully participate and attend all sessions, we suggest you wait to register for a future group.
About the Cognitive Behavior Therapy Center
The Cognitive Behavior Therapy Center is a regional clinic of the National Social Anxiety Center. We offer individual therapy and group therapy focused on Anxiety, OCD and related disorders. We have six (6) therapists and an administrative assistant. Three (3) of our licensed therapists are certified by the Academy of Cognitive Therapy.
The Social Anxiety Group will be led by Saryna Konczey, Professional Clinical Counselor Intern and Marriage & Family Therapist Intern. For the Social Anxiety Group, Saryna is supervised by Laura Johnson, LMFT, LPCC, Center Director and Certified Cognitive Therapist, and Caitlyn Oscarson, LMFT, Certified Cognitive Therapist.
