About
Anxiety and OCD Therapy with Laura Johnson
Laura Johnson, LMFT, LPCC, provides Anxiety and OCD therapy to clients across California through the Cognitive Behavior Therapy Center based in San Jose. I stand out for my passion for CBT and Schema Therapy, two evidenced based therapies, my understanding and caring for my clients, and my continued pursuit of advanced training and knowledge to deliver more effective therapy to my clients.

About Me
I’m one of the few therapists in California — and across the U.S. — who holds advanced certifications in both Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Schema Therapy. This unique blend allows me to offer you the best of both worlds: practical, research-based strategies that bring relief from anxiety and OCD, and deeper, transformative work that targets long-standing patterns and personality dynamics. My approach is goal-oriented yet compassionate, giving you tools you can use right away while also guiding you toward lasting change that reshapes how you relate to yourself and others.
My Background
I’ve been working in the mental health field since 2004 and providing therapy since 2006. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with adults, teens, children, and families, helping them break out of painful cycles of anxiety, OCD, depression, and deeply entrenched patterns that keep them stuck. I have worked solo as well as managed a group therapy practice with up to 10 therapists at a time.
Before becoming a therapist, I spent more than 16 years in the corporate world, holding leadership positions in marketing, brand management, and corporate philanthropy at Fortune 500 companies like Microsoft, Intuit, Wells Fargo, and Royal Caribbean. That experience gave me a first-hand understanding of how high-pressure environments affect stress, performance, and emotional well-being — insight I bring to my work with executives and high-achieving professionals today.
Eventually, I followed my passion for psychology and earned my M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University, after completing an MBA at Columbia Business School and a B.A. in Communication from the University of Miami. Since then, I’ve dedicated my career to advancing evidence-based therapy.

-
High-achieving professionals facing stress, perfectionism, and performance anxiety
-
Gifted and talented adults struggling with overachievement, social anxiety, and sensitivity
Beyond the Office
I grew up in Miami and have lived in the Silicon Valley, New York and Los Angeles. I’m the mother of two amazing daughters, both adopted when they were age 5 and 8. Outside of therapy, I enjoy long walks with my family and dogs, skiing, camping, yoga, horseback riding, movies, and, of course, playing with our beloved pets — a lively crew of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and Birman cats. And truth be told, I never stop learning about CBT and Schema Therapy (it’s fair to say I’m a little obsessed!).
Why Work with Me
If you’re looking for a therapist who blends practical, evidence-based tools with deeper, root-level work, you’ve found the right fit. I believe therapy should be both action-oriented and transformative — helping you not only manage symptoms but also create lasting change.
Wherever you are in California, I can meet you through video therapy and help you build a path toward a calmer, more fulfilling life.
Focusing on What’s Important
Our primary focus is evidence-based treatments for anxiety and related disorders, acknowledging the subtle differences in how each condition should be addressed. Unlike many therapists who work with anxiety, our approaches require extensive continuing education in the specific conceptualization for each person and evidence-based strategies for each disorder.
We use a variety of cognitive and behavioral strategies depending on what the research indicates might be most effective for a particular problem. Interventions may include cognitive therapy, behavior therapy, exposure therapy, exposure and response prevention (ERP), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills for emotion regulation, mindfulness-based therapies, acceptance-based techniques, and positive psychology methods to create lasting change.
History
Laura L.C. Johnson, MBA, MA, LMFT, founded the Cognitive Behavior Therapy Center as a private practice in 2010. By 2012, she incorporated as the Cognitive Behavior Therapy Center, Adult & Child Counseling Inc. (dba Cognitive Behavior Therapy Center of Silicon Valley).
Recognizing the need for evidence-based cognitive behavior therapy in the Sacramento Valley, Laura expanded the Center in 2015, opening a branch office in Roseville, CA. With limited certified therapists specializing in anxiety, OCD, and related problems in the Silicon Valley and Sacramento Valley, Laura envisioned a center that directly addressed these gaps with advanced training and expertise.
In 2021, Laura transitioned back to working as an independent therapist, continuing her passion for delivering cognitive behavior therapy under the trusted Cognitive Behavior Therapy Center name.
